3. The Rangers’ defense is like a brick house on ice

While other teams in the playoffs have a group of defensemen that are talented, the New York Rangers have a group that is both talented and deep. New York could give away some of their players to other teams and still have enough to be good to go for their first round series with the Penguins.

It starts with the trio of Ryan McDonagh, Dan Boyle and Keith Yandle. These three stars can handle almost anything the other offense throws at them, while Marc Stall and Dan Girardi can create turnovers and get the puck back for the Rangers to go on the attack.

The one question mark for the defense will be the health of Kevin Klein. He missed the last month of the regular season with an arm injury but is expected to be back for Game 1 of the Pittsburgh series. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if he didn’t play, but his intelligence at picking the right moments to attack could be vital to the Rangers getting back to the Finals and winning it this time.
