5. It’s An Even Year

There’s something about even years and California sports teams. The San Francisco Giants and the Kings have both won championships in even years as of late. While the Giants have the streak going longer (2010, 2012, 2014), Los Angeles were crowned champions in 2012 and 2014. Since it’s an even year, Los Angeles will be in the thick of the race for the title. That’s how they roll.

Each time the Giants won the World Series, they failed to make the playoffs the next season. Los Angeles can relate to that after missing the playoffs last season due to a variety of factors. They are back in the playoffs in 2016 and they’re ready to take the frustrations of last season out on the rest of the league.

It will be interesting to see how they do now that they are not the underdogs like they were in 2012 and 2014. Los Angeles is a team that doesn’t necessarily need to be in a good position to win, but being in a good position to win the Stanley Cup as the second seed of the Pacific Division should be a welcome change.

Even year magic might be just an intangible, but it’s something that should definitely help the Kings chances come playoff time.
