San Diego Chargers: Full 7-round mock draft
These past couple years in the NFL have proven a couple things. First, the defense still wins championships. But it has also proven that who a quarterback is throwing to isn’t as important as the quarterback and the offensive line around the quarterback. Despite this fact, Rivers still needs a reliable tight end he can count on. Jake McGee could be that guy.
Before he went to Florida, McGee was Virginia’s top receiver, with over 700 yards receiving. With Antonio Gates’ career coming to an end, they need someone to step in who will eventually take his place. Obviously, it is tough to take the place of one of the best tight ends in history, but McGee could step in nicely for Gates. He has pretty good hands and is a threat in the passing game.
The downside is McGee will be entering the NFL as a 25-year-old rookie, but he has a pretty athletic frame which could hold up for many years to come. If nothing else, McGee could serve as an interim tight end until the Chargers can find another go-to tight end who is more athletic and versatile in the passing game.
