PF. Washington. Marquese Chriss. 11. player. 38.
The Magic have several top options and several solid role players offensively. Guys like Nikola Vucevic and Victor Oladipo can handle the scoring load offensively, while Elfrid Payton and Aaron Gordon show great potential as high-energy role players. What the Magic lack is someone who can bridge that gap, by being a scoring threat that can also support the team’s key players.

Chriss will take some time to develop, but he has the makings of that type of player. He hinted at the same type of versatility on offense that Gordon provides defensively while at Washington, posting an offensive rebounding rate of 9.8 and hitting 35 percent on three-point shots with a good looking stroke. He’s also a monster in transition, finishing many a Dejounte Murray alley-oop in Washington’s up-tempo offense. Additionally, Chriss has the length and mobility to be a weakside shot-blocker at the next level, and while his on-ball defense needs some polish, his offensive versatility and size mean that he could play comfortably next to Gordon or Vucevic and fit a variety of different roles as the team’s third big.

Chriss is incredibly raw, but he does have good potential as a third or fourth offensive option and should be able to at least be league-average defensively. For a team like the Magic, who can afford to bring him along slowly with the youth of their roster, this is a decent risk to take.
