Liverpool vs. AC Milan, Champions League Final

Although their most recent comeback was historic, none has meant more to Liverpool than this comeback in recent years. The Eur0pa League comeback was epic, but the meaning of this comeback is far greater than advancing in the Europa League — it was to win the Champions League.

Liverpool went down to AC Milan within the opening minute. It looked to be a route after the first 45 minutes. While there was still a chance, it was slim as Liverpool was down 3-0.

Steven Gerrard (are you serious) gave his team their first goal in the 54th minute to put them down only two, with over half an hour to play. Vladimir Smicer cut the two goal lead in half two minutes later. Hope, yet again.

Just minutes later, Xabi Alonso, pulled Liverpool level in just under 15 minutes into the second half. Somehow AC Milan managed to hang on until extra time and then to penalties. Jerzey Dudek was the hero in the penalty shootout, saving three out of five penalties.

The seemingly impossible comeback brought Liverpool its first European Cup since 1984. While the rest are sensational comebacks for the Reds, none can trump this one in Istanbul.
