Milwaukee Bucks (E)

When thinking of the NBA’s biggest disappointments from 2015-16, the Bucks are right around the top of the list, if not headlining it. So, regardless of the talent they have that makes it seem as though they shouldn’t receive such a poor grade, it’s their shortcomings with those realistic expectations and jump off a cliff defensively that warrants an E.

Last season, the Bucks finished 6th in the East, boasting a 2nd place ranking in defensive efficiency and a roster full of length and imposing presence in the paint. Yet, with Greg Monroe’s far less resilient effort on defense and a bench with a -2.2 net rating (per NBA.com), they fell to 21st in defensive efficiency and lost their identity.

Don’t be too discouraged, though, Bucks fans. As anyone who’s watched them play will see, there are exceptional bright spots on the horizon in Milwaukee.

Giannis Antetokounmpo running the point has been a revelation, both in terms of his freakish talent and the sheer frequency at which he can rack up triple-doubles (4th in the NBA with five). His ability at 6’11” is remarkable. From the way he can charge the length of the floor with just a few dribbles, survey his opponents, and deliver passes with excellent feel and precision for anyone, let alone someone who’s practically 7-foot. If he can add a consistent mid-range jumper, he’ll be deadlier still.

And with Jabari Parker healthy again, showcasing his driving and finishing ability, the Bucks have a couple of young stars to highlight their talent.

The Bucks should be on the rise next season with the likes of Giannis, Parker, Kris Middleton and anyone they can land in free agency. Monroe hasn’t fully worked out, though, and the 2015-16 season that should have been a stepping stone to greater heights has been a setback instead.
