With the 40th overall pick (Round 2) of the 1993 draft, the Giants selected Texas Southern defensive end Michael Strahan. At first, things didn’t look to be going his way as his first few seasons in the league he was a decent player, but not the guy fans think of today.

In 1997, however, Strahan broke out with 14 quarterback sacks and from then on he was the emotional and on-the-field leader for the Giants until he retired after his team won the Super Bowl in 2007.

What Strahan is best known for during his playing time was his 2001 season in which he set the record (which still stands) for most sacks in a season with 22.5. He ended his career with 854 tackles, 141.5 sacks, four interceptions and a remarkable 24 forced fumbles.

His excellent play led Strahan to seven Pro Bowls, four First Team All-Pro honors and he was the NFL sack leader in both his record setting year of 2001 as well as 2003.

Since hanging up the cleats, Strahan has been even more successful as a media personality. He is a member of FOX NFL Sunday as well as the co-host of the morning talk show “Live! With Kelly and Michael.” On top of that, he is also regularly featured on Good Morning America on ABC.
