2. P- Andrew Cashner

We head back to San Diego to look at another starting pitcher that may be on the move in right-handed hurler Andrew Cashner. If the Padres, can’t find a taker for Shields because of his contract, contract shouldn’t be an issue when talking a deal for 29 year old-right hander.

Casher is due to make $7.15 million, the last year before he hits free agency for the first time in his career. Cashner had an outstanding 2014, although it was in just 19 starts due to injury.

2015 didn’t go that well for Cashner, who posted a 6-16 record with a 4.34 ERA and allowing 200 hits in 184 innings. Some of that may have to do with just bad luck. Cashner had a BABIP against of .330 and it’s even higher so far this season, at .364 at the time of this post.

Cashner’s cost will be benefical as the Padres place him on the block. If he helps a contender make the playoffs and does well in the postseason, that can help Cashner earn extra money for his next contract with a weak free agent class this off-season.
