Now that the Kobe Bryant era is over with the Lakers and the team is in one of the biggest rebuilding modes that there has ever been in the history of the NBA, it’s going to be time to spend some money on quality players who will actually make them a relevant team again.

The rumors have flown for months that the Lakers are going to try and make a run for Kevin Durant as their top target in free agency. While it’s nice to get the big man and high profile star, he is going to need pieces around him to succeed.

The Lakers can make Mike Conley a solid number two threat and help put some positive publicity into a team who has dealt with everything from the Kobe goodbye tour to the hilarious drama involving D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young toward the end of the year.

Signing someone like Conley, even if Durant doesn’t end up signing with the team, shows fans and future players and coaches that the Lakers are committed to turning things around and no longer being a lottery team.
