AL Rookie of the Year

  1. Tyler White, 1B Houston Astros – Prior to Spring Training, we didn’t even know if Tyler White would be a factor for the Astros in 2016. Now, he is an easy choice for ROY front-runner. White has lit up the American League to the tune of four home runs and a beautiful .357/.429/.714 slash line over 13 games, and he is one of the better stories in baseball right now. It is certainly fair to state that these numbers probably paint a rosier picture of White than what is real, but it’s been a lot fun.
  2. Joey Rickard, OF Baltimore Orioles – I will admit to not knowing a lot about Joey Rickard prior to two weeks ago, but he is producing for Baltimore to this point. In 11 games (and 50 plate appearances), Rickard has a 115 wRC+ while patrolling the outfield for the Orioles, and with an ugly rookie class, that is easily worthy of this nod.
  3. Nomar Mazara, OF Texas Rangers – It is (very) early, and that is how a player with 31 plate appearances makes his way on to this list. Mazara has been, well, awesome in that limited action, though, posting an unholy slash line of .444/.452/.593 in a supporting role with the Rangers. Those numbers will obviously drop in the coming days and weeks, but the 20-year-old is very talented and he could find a lasting role in Arlington.
