NL Cy Young

  1. Noah Syndergaard, New York Mets – We all saw this coming from the 23-year-old, but the real arrival of Noah Syndergaard is happening now. In three starts, the talented right-hander sports a 0.90 ERA (with a 0.82 FIP!) to go along with 13.05 strikeouts per 9 innings and just 1.80 walks per 9 innings, and Syndergaard has not allowed a home run over 20 innings of work. His fastball might be the best in baseball today, and if Syndergaard can sustain anything approaching this level of play, the Mets are in for a treat in 2016 and beyond.
  2. Jake Arrieta, Chicago Cubs – Same old, same old for Jake Arrieta. Oh, that is a very good thing. Arrieta has a 1.23 ERA over three starts and 22 innings, and while his strikeout rate is slightly down from his dominant 2015, the walk rate is minuscule and his stuff is still biting on a per-pitch basis. He has certainly joined the ranks of the elite and doesn’t appear to be leaving any time soon.
  3. Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers – Wouldn’t this be a tremendous trio to monitor all season? Kershaw’s numbers are eerily similar to that of Arrieta, and if you remember the slow start that he went through in 2015, that is terrifying for the rest of the league. Kershaw is the best pitcher alive and he always presents a real threat to win the NL Cy Young.
