In 2015, Washington started to try to rebuild their offensive line. They used the fifth overall selection on guard Brandon Scherff and they use their first pick this year to also address the trenches.

With the 21st pick in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Redskins begin to work on the defensive line by adding Louisville defensive tackle, Sheldon Rankins.

The 303-pound defensive tackle may have to switch to defensive end in the Redskins defensive formation, but he is the type of player who can help in a variety of ways. After minimal impact as a freshman and sophomore, Rankins came on strong during his final two seasons at Louisville.

In 2014, he recorded 53 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss, eight sacks and two interceptions. His senior season ended with 58 tackles, 13 for a loss and six sacks.

Some scouts are worried about his shorter stature (measured 6-foot-1 at the combine) but the fact is Rankins has great strength and even brings exciting athleticism to the position. His feet are surprisingly quick and he can beat offensive lineman in a myriad of ways.

Could be a day one starter for the Redskins, which is what most teams are trying to do with their first round selections.
