CLEVELAND, OH - DECEMBER 21: Quarterback Tim Couch
CLEVELAND, OH – DECEMBER 21: Quarterback Tim Couch /

53. . Quarterback. Kentucky Wildcats. Tim Couch. 10. player

Like Carr with the Texans, former Kentucky Wildcats star quarterback Tim Couch was expected to quarterback an expansion team in the NFL. Couch went No. 1 overall to the Cleveland Browns in the 1999 NFL Draft.

Couch became the first of well over 20 straight starter quarterbacks to fail in Cleveland since rejoining the NFL back in 1999. While he was better than frankly most who tried their hand at quarterbacking the Browns since, Couch is still remembered as a quarterback bust because he couldn’t lead an expansion Cleveland team to victory in his five seasons with the team.

Despite probably still having some upside after his fifth season in the league in 2003, Couch was essentially broken goods and never played another NFL regular season snap. He would make the 2004 Packers and 2007 Jaguars practice squads before he called it a career after the 2007 NFL season.

Couch finished his NFL career with 11,131 passing yards for 64 touchdowns and 67 interceptions. He completed 59.8 percent of his passes and had a career passer rating of 75.1.

In truth, given with all he had to endure with the up-start Browns of the early 2000s, Couch wasn’t a terrible quarterback. The problem is that he is synonymous with the culture of losing there in Cleveland and perhaps he should have been better as the No. 1 overall pick coming out of the SEC in 1999.
