Wade Baldwin IV. 19. player. 73.
Sure, the Nuggets selected a point guard with their first round pick last season, but Denver’s backup point guard situation is unclear going forward. D.J. Augustin will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason while Jameer Nelson, under contract until 2018, is 34 years old. Vanderbilt’s Wade Baldwin is a potential replacement in the back court who can also spend minutes alongside Emmanuel Mudiay, having spent plenty of time off the ball before this season.

Baldwin’s most noticeable trait is his 6-10 wingspan, which provides him plenty of defensive leeway. Baldwin doesn’t have excellent quickness or defensive fundamentals, but his long arms help him make enough recovery plays and contain penetration. Baldwin was a solid shooter during his time at Vanderbilt, making 42.2 percent of his 4.0 three-point attempts per 40 minutes. He is also a capable distributor, having averaged 6.9 assists per 40 minutes with a 33.7 percent assist rate as a sophomore.

It seems unlikely that Baldwin will become a starter in the NBA, but his potential to be a serviceable role player is enough to make him a top 20 selection. Baldwin can excel against second units as a primary ball-handler and, if necessary, spend time as a floor spacer in lineups with Mudiay.
