Denver Broncos – Terrell Davis (No. 196 pick, 1995)

No, John Elway does not qualify. The then Baltimore Colts selected Elway with the top pick in the 1983 NFL Draft, but Elway and his camp forced a trade to Denver and, well, the rest is history as he compiled a Hall of Fame career that included two Super Bowl rings for the Broncos. With that out of the way and before any panics, the actual pick is Terrell Davis.

Davis should be credited with those two Super Bowl rings as well, as his arrival helped to pave the way for Elway to shed the label of a non-winner when it came to the NFL playoffs. Davis is perhaps best known for having a 2,000-yard season as part of his body of work, but the former Georgia Bulldog was arguably the best running back in the league over a two-year period. More than that, though, is that the Broncos have to be credited with the insane value of where they picked him up in the draft.

Davis was a sixth-round selection, and that is why he is the choice. There are better players that operated in Denver, but none of them can boast the type of insane value that the Broncos received with this modest investment, and that still matters when talking about draft picks.
