5. Blake Snell-Tampa Bay Rays

Snell makes his MLB debut today as he and the Rays take on the slumping Yankees in the Bronx.  Snell is only expected to make this one start before being send back to Triple-A, so he only makes sense as a one-and-done option or in a keeper league.

Snell had an impressive rise through the Rays’ system last year going 15-4 with a  1.41 ERA at three different levels of the system. So far this season, he has a 2.51 ERA in Durham going 1-1 with 21 punch outs in his 14 1/3 innings.

Obviously, Snell is making a huge jump in competition level going from Triple-A batters to facing the Bronx Bombers today, but he’s a highly-valued prospect by a team that churns out effective young pitchers.  If you have the ability to take a flier and absorb the risk, Snell could be the talk of the MLB if he continues his success as he faces the Yankees whose offense has struggled much of the season.
