NBA Rumors: Kevin McHale drawing interest from Kings

The Sacramento Kings are looking at hiring Kevin McHale.

The Sacramento Kings head coach job has been a revolving door over the years. Despite new ownership coming in just a few years ago, things haven’t changed much for who handles the duties on the bench. Keith Smart, Mike Malone, and most recently, George Karl, have filled this position.

With the NBA season over and Karl already fired, the Kings are looking at hiring their next head coach soon. One option seems to be Kevin McHale, according to NBC Sports.

McHale was fired by the Houston Rockets just weeks into the 2015-16 NBA season. The team didn’t start off well and management felt a change needed to be mare early. This led to J.B. Bickerstaff taking the interim position for the rest of the season, leading the team to the playoffs.

The NBA legend had led the Rockets to the Western Conference Finals in 2015, though, so the decision to fire him so soon after was surprising.

If McHale does get hired by the Kings, he’ll have an interesting team to handle. DeMarcus Cousins is arguably the top big man in the game, but has a tough time dealing with coaches. Rajon Rondo’s status for next season is also up in the air, and he’s an enigma too.

So the decision of who will be the next Kings head coach should come soon. If it’s Kevin McHale, he would be an interesting fit.
