DL. Louisville. Sheldon Rankins. 12. player. 15.
The Saints are incredibly brutal on the defensive side of the ball, basically at every level. With that said, New Orleans should probably just draft the best defensive player available (with a few minor exceptions) and Sheldon Rankins is probably the best fit when you throw that full formula together.

New Orleans allowed nearly five yards per carry on the ground last season, and their defensive tackle play was underwhelming to put it mildly. Rankins is not the best pure run-stuffer from the tackle spot of this year’s group (hello, Jarran Reed), but he does serve as the best combination of size and explosiveness from the interior. During his time at Louisville, Rankins flashed the ability to be a dominant player against the run, but what separates him is the ability to also get after the passer from the defensive tackle spot, which is something that the Saints also desperately need at this stage.

If the Saints were to invest on the offensive side of the ball, it would throw everyone for a loop. That is how bad this team is on defense from a roster standpoint, and they can pretty much pick anyone on that side of the ball and be universally applauded.
