If you saw what Von Miller did to Mike Remmers in the Super Bowl, there’s a good chance that you’d expect the Panthers to take an offensive tackle in the first round. However, Remmers was actually an above-serviceable right tackle in Carolina for much of the season and that might not be quite as pressing of a need as Miller may have made it seem on the biggest stage that the NFL has to offer. That being said, it’s still an area that they need to address in the draft.

With that in mind, a player like former Auburn Tigers tackle Shon Coleman is certainly an interesting player to have on the draft board if you’re the Panthers. With the proper development, Coleman truly has the potential to develop into one of the better offensive tackles in the league. However, he was often injured throughout his college career and will need time to develop and hone his technique at an NFL level, which is really why the fit with Carolina makes a lot of sense.

The Panthers could afford to let Remmers play at least another regular season—or the majority of it—at right tackle to allow Coleman to develop behind him. While they’ll want to upgrade from Remmers eventually, allowing the Auburn product to develop and get the technique to go along with his physical tools would be perfect for all parties involved.
