The Panthers have undoubtedly focused on their receiving core in the past two NFL Drafts as they took Kelvin Benjamin out of Florida State in 2014 before taking Devin Funchess last year. However, their lack of depth at the position was glaring—even as they lost only one game in the regular season behind Cam Newton’s MVP performance. Despite how good he was for them, no Panthers fan ever fully felt comfortable in trusting Ted Ginn Jr. with Benjamin out injured and Funchess still developing.

As such, the receiver position is still a position of need of for Carolina and an area that they might address in 2016. One player that really should catch their eye, especially as a potential possession-type receiver to play along the huge bodies of Benjamin and Funchess would be former Michigan State Spartans wide receiver, Aaron Burbridge.

Burbridge is really the type of player that translates to what the Panthers need to round out a young, talented receiving core. He doesn’t have breakaway speed and won’t blow by his coverage, but he’s always ready to make catches and is strong and sure-handed enough to make catches even when defenders are draped on him. He could develop into a reliable, dangerous possession receiver at the NFL level and he’d fit perfectly with the Panthers.
