Detroit Lions – Charles Rogers (No. 2 pick, 2003)

You were probably expecting a quarterback, and that wouldn’t be crazy. After all, the Lions invested top 10 picks in both Andre Ware (7th overall in 1990) and Joey Harrington (3rd overall in 2002), but neither player was as disastrous as Charles Rogers, who also happened to be picked earlier than either signal-caller.

Remember when Matt Millen was taking wide receivers every single year in the first round? Well, Rogers was the first. Things actually started well in Detroit as the former Michigan State star caught two touchdown passes in his debut, but that was about the last positive thing he did.

Rogers lasted only three years (and 15 games) with the Lions for a variety of reasons. First, he just wasn’t all that productive on the field. Second, he was injury prone. Third, he had substance abuse issues and could’t stay out of trouble with the NFL.

Charles Rogers was insanely talented, but the fact he makes this list ahead of several of Detroit’s quarterback busts and Mike Williams tells you how badly things went for him in the NFL.
