Buffalo Bills – Mike Williams (No. 4 pick, 2002)

The Bills have been (very) bad at drafting quarterbacks in recent years. Taking J.P. Losman with a first round pick in 2004 wasn’t a great investment, and just nine years later, Buffalo inexplicably reached to tab Florida State’s E.J. Manuel as their “franchise quarterback” with the 16th overall pick. It looks like Manuel is on the path to becoming this organization’s worst pick, but given that he is only 26, he’ll get the benefit of the doubt for now.

That benefit does not exist for Mike Williams.

Williams, the massive offensive tackle out of Texas, was a top-five pick in 2002 and was basically out of the league before he turned 30. Williams had weight problems throughout his career, but the bigger issue was a lack of production, as the Bills attempted to shuffle him around until finally giving up on him entirely in 2006.

Offensive linemen often get overlooked when it comes to naming draft busts because the general public can’t evaluate them with any level of credibility. In Williams’ case, though, it was pretty obvious throughout his Buffalo tenure that it wasn’t going to work out for anyone involved.
