MLB Trade Deadline: One trade each team should make
By Jason Evans
Minnesota Twins-Trevor Plouffe to the Angels for Cam Bedrosian
The Twins have some overkill at the third base/first base/ DH positions. Miguel Sano should be at third, but he’s in right field because Trevor Plouffe is at third. He could really be at DH, but Joe Mauer is because Byun- Hun Park is at first base. Sano isn’t off to a great start, and maybe that’s because he’s in a spot he isn’t totally comfortable with. Plouffe is injured right now, but the trade can be made upon his return which shouldn’t be too far away
Bedrosian would give the Twins a young, power arm that they can use in their bullpen right now. The Twins have begun to add young power arms in the draft and through trades, something that hadn’t done before. The Twins needed strike out pitchers, something that hadn’t had, even when they won the AL Central consistently.
For the Angels, this is another way that they can get a bat. Plouffe can play third and move Yunel Escobar over to second base. It can give the Angels another bat in the lineup, something that I spoke about in the Angels section of this post. Plouffe can slide right into the lineup behind Kole Calhoun in the six spot and drop down Andrelton Simmons and CJ Cron.
