MLB Trade Deadline: One trade each team should make
By Jason Evans
New York Yankees-Nick Goody and Slade Heathcott to the Colorado Rockies for Jorge De La Rosa
The Yankees have a few problems this season. They aren’t hitting and their starting rotation isn’t giving them any length in games. I think the offense will eventually come around, but their rotation is something that is going to need to be upgraded.
Enter De La Rosa, who, if he can be successful in Coors Field, can be at Yankee stadium as well. Trading for Tyson Ross is too big an injury risk right now, and De La Rosa is someone who’s contract expires after this season, so it fits right in with the Yankees plan to have some payroll flexibility.
In De La Rosa, they get someone who can give them some length along with someone who is left-handed which is what you want at Yankee Stadium.
The Rockies can always bring back De La Rosa next season in free agency. In this deal, they get a young, left-handed outfielder in Heathcott with some speed, which is important in Coors Field, and some pop in his bat.
In Goody, they get a young reliever who the Rockies can add to the bullpen right now to see if he can pitch at Coors Field.
