Noah Spence, OLB, Eastern Kentucky

When talking about the Indianapolis Colts and general manager Ryan Grigson’s draft strategy, you have to udnerstand one thing. Nothing ever makes sense. For years, the Colts have needed to draft defensive help and an offensive line in the absolute worst way, and yet Grigson continues to baffle minds with his trade of a first-round pick for Trent Richardson followed by taking wide receiver Phillip Dorett in 2015.

Grigson is arguably the worst general manager in the league considering the good fortune he walked into, and there is no reason to think he gets this pick right. However, we went with Noah Spence of the Eastern Kentucky because Spence should be able to provide some pass rush off the edge, something former first-round pick Bjoern Werner (another Grigson mess) couldn’t do.

Spence has some question marks off the field, but he can play and would be a perfect fit in Chuck Pagano’s 3-4 scheme. With Robert Mathis’ career winding down, the Colts need to get the next great pass-rusher on the roster. In this scenario, all of the top tackles are off the board, meaning Indianapolis should exercise some sense and take the best defensive player available. Don’t hold your breath, though.
