2016 NFL mock draft: Final edition
Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State
If there is ever an obvious pick, this is it. The Dallas Cowboys have to get younger and more talented in their front seven, and Joey Bosa fits both of those bills. Bosa is a 4-3 defensive end who would go perfectly in defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli’s scheme as a pass-rusher who can also stack-and-shed in the run game.
Dallas also has some problems in the short-term on the defensive side. DeMarcus Lawrence is suspended for the first four games of the season alongside outside linebacker Randy Gregory, so there is a major shortage of talent in the pass-rushing department. Bosa would give Dallas a star on the outside for the first time since DeMarcus Ware was roaming off the edge.
The Cowboys will be tempted to take running back Ezekiel Elliott here because owner/general manager Jerry Jones loves his high-profile stars. However, Dallas has ample talent on the offensive line and shouldn’t waste resources on a running back when a decent back can go for 1,300 yards behind that group. If the Cowboys want to get to the Super Bowl in the last few years Tony Romo has left, upgrading the defense from front to back is the smart way to go.
