2. Ryan Kelly

If there’s a pick that might not wow anyone because of the position, but could ultimately be the best pick in the first round, it’s the Indianapolis Colts selection of Alabama center Ryan Kelly. Heading into the draft, the strong consensus was that Kelly would be the pick if he was there at No. 18.

He was and the Colts wasted no time selecting a center that they feel can anchor the offensive line for many years. With Andrew Luck under center and the Colts needing to improve their offensive line across the board, it was imperative they took a player like Kelly. With a championship pedigree coming from a program like Alabama, Kelly was a player that scouts saw as a winner at the next level.

Of all the offensive lineman in the draft, Kelly should be the safest pick. Part of that is because of the position he plays, but he’s also a leader on the field. The Colts are hoping that he and Luck can have chemistry for years and they should be a great duo.

It’s the first of a long process of revitalizing the offensive line for the Colts, but it’s a big step forward toward putting a better product on the field around Luck.
