When it comes to the 2016 NFL Draft, defensive tackle is (easily) the deepest position group. Players like A’Shawn Robinson, Sheldon Rankins, Jarran Reed, Andrew Billings, Vernon Butler and Chris Jones look to be future standouts at the professional level, and even if none become a legitimate superstar, it would be hard to “miss” on this particular spot. From the looks of it, the defensive tackle position will be weaker when it comes to 2017, but that will not be the fault of Malik McDowell.

McDowell, who stands at 6-foot-6 and more than 280 pounds, was a terror during his true sophomore season at Michigan State. He partnered with Shilique Calhoun to form a devastating duo up front for the Spartans, and McDowell’s combination of quickness, motor and power makes him incredibly valuable when it comes to the NFL Draft.

With another year under his belt (especially if it is a similar performance to 2015), there will be no question about McDowell as the top defensive tackle in this draft class. The defensive ends, as usual, will get the lion’s share of attention, but every team in the NFL wants depth and talent on the interior and McDowell will provide just that.
. DT. Michigan State. Malik McDowell. 11. player. 15
