The Minnesota Wild will likely be looking for an experienced head coach who is more offensive-minded after former head coach Mike Yeo, who was defense minded, did not work out. They have a plethora of talented young forwards who Yeo never got the most out of. At the same time, they have a blue line that features members with very unique skill sets. Their next coach will have to be someone who can balance the two.

They will require an experienced head coach. That much was guaranteed after the team signed forward Zach Parise, defenseman Ryan Suter, and goaltender Devan Dubnyk to long-term contracts. They are in it to win now, not in the future. Their front office issues are fairly well known, which might scare off some of the better candidates like Bruce Boudreau. Still, they are a very talented team and that’s going to attract a lot of coaches.

Most Logical Candidate: Guy Boucher. Boucher is perhaps the most unique head coaching candidate currently looking for an NHL head coaching job. He has experience and he has proven that he can adjust his systems to fit his players, which is an extremely important tool to have to be an NHL head coach. Boucher deserves another shot and he should get it in Minnesota.
