5. Win-Now Culture of the Lakers

There are several teams around the NBA that operate by a different set of rules and standards than the majority of the teams in the league, for whatever reason. Without question, the Los Angeles Lakers qualify as one of those franchises as they have a different set of expectations, standards, and protocol than 95 percent of the league.

Because of the fact that they’ve won 16 NBA Championships in the history of the organization, because they have seen some of the most iconic players in the history of the organization stroll don the Purple and Gold, and because of the culture that the Lakers fans have cultivated in the city around the team, they aren’t a squad that will fully accept a traditionally rebuilding process. If someone like Sam Hinkie had come to the Lakers front office preaching “Trust the Process,” there’s a good chance he might not have lasted six months in Los Angeles.

As such, acquiring a player like Paul George would help to expedite the process for the Lakers. They obviously have a slew of talented young players already in place like D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, and even Larry Nance Jr. While some of those guys might have to leave in order to trade for George, George could elevate that young group much quicker than those youngsters simply developing on their own.
