Carlos Gonzalez to the Los Angeles Angels

The Angels had a glaring weakness in the corner outfield entering the season, and did not address it despite having numerous options available in the free agent market. As much as the team doesn’t want to spend more money with a number of huge contracts bogging it down, it can’t afford to waste another prime Mike Trout season while in a very winnable division.

Gonzalez could end up being one of the best hitters available later in the summer, and would certainly fill a hole on Los Angeles’ roster. The 30-year-old certainly carries some injury concerns, but after a scorching second half in 2015 and .310/,355/.529 start to this season per FanGraphs, he will have plenty of trade value if he can avoid the DL.

The Colorado Rockies finally acknowledged the need for a rebuild after dealing Troy Tulowitzki at the 2015 deadline. With a long way to go to catch the top teams in the NL West, the Rockies will also deal players like Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon this season.

Gonzalez would be a huge upgrade over the current rotation of players that Los Angeles is running out in left field. A potential hang up is Los Angeles’ bottom-five farm system, but it still has the pieces to get a deal done.

The Angels need to win soon with an aging roster around Trout and few good prospects, so adding Gonzalez is worth it if they are still within striking distance by the deadline.
