NBA Rumors: Mike D’Antoni to interview with Rockets
Mike D’Antoni will reportedly meet with the Rockets about their head coaching vacancy
The Houston Rockets, more than most other teams in the NBA, are at a crossroads this offseason in a number of ways. Not only do they have major decisions to make in regards to their roster and how they want to build their team moving forward, but they also have to decide who the next head coach of the team will be as it seems clear that J.B. Bickerstaff isn’t going to be the guy. However, the Rockets think that famed head coach Mike D’Antoni might be the guy—or so it would seem.
According to a report from ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Rockets are set to meet with the former NBA head coach and current Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach in D’Antoni some time this week about potentially taking the vacant head coaching job:
D’Antoni was last a head coach in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2013-14 season where he failed to meet expectations. However, the coach is one of the most respected offensive minds in the history of the NBA, especially for what he was able to do with the Phoenix Suns in the mid-2000s and the “five seconds or less” offense.
We’ll see how far this progresses with the Rockets, but that’s certainly a big name to be connected to the coaching job and one that would create some intriguing possibilities. This is definitely something worth keeping an eye on in the coming week.
