Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will meet in the Champions League Final for the second time in three years

For the second time in the past three years, two teams from Madrid will occupy the Champions League Final. On Wednesday with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the second leg and on aggregate, Real Madrid advanced to the Champions League Final to take on their in-city rivals in Atletico Madrid on May 28 in Milan, Italy.

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid facing off in the Champions League Final obviously marks the second time in the past three tournaments that these two teams have faced off, but also marks the third time in the last four years that two clubs from the same country will be squaring off for the most prestigious European club competition their is.

While Real Madrid was certainly impressive in getting past City to make it to the Final with their star in Cristiano Ronaldo not at 100 percent—even if the one goal of the series was ruled as an own goal—the road that Atletico took to get to the Champions League Final is quite absurd. They knocked out Barcelona in the Quarterfinals and then knocked out Bayern Munich to get to the Final. Now they’ll look to slay another giant in the Final, a giant that beat them in this matchup two years ago.

Here’s a look at the highlights from Real Madrid’s win over Manchester City to advance to play Atletico Madrid:
