According to a report, the Rockets are intrigued by college coaches Bill Self and Shaka Smart for their head coach opening.

The Houston Rockets still have yet to fill their head coach vacancy and with the NBA Draft Combine soon to roll around and other important offseason dates, the Rockets are looking to fill that opening soon and have a coach in place that can try and fix the team.

While the Rockets have been linked to plenty of names across the professional level, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Rockets maybe look at the college level as well. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, there are two college coaches that “intrigue” the Rockets, Bill Self and Shaka Smart.

While the Rockets certainly should be interested in both coaches, it’s highly unlikely that either one of them would leave their current spot to go coach a team that could be on the verge of a full blown rebuild, depending upon what the team decides what to do with the roster.

Both Self and Smart have complete job stability and have the chance to continue to do things with their respective programs for a long time to come. That type of stability might not be had in Houston and right now, it’s hard to say what the future of the Rockets holds.
