Victor Hedman extended the Lightning’s lead over the Islanders to 3-0 in Game 5 with a beautiful power play goal.

After a strong first period in Game 5 that ended with the Tampa Bay Lightning up 2-0, Tampa Bay refused to take their foot off the pedal as they kept pressuring the New York Islanders in the second period. They got rewarded after getting a power play thanks to defenseman Victor Hedman’s second goal of the day.

Hedman is making a strong case for the Conn Smythe Trophy. He might not have the best stats, but four goals and five assists in 10 games from a defenseman is pretty impressive. Hedman has raised his game when the Lightning have desperately needed him to with their second best defenseman Anton Stralman out with a lower-body injury. That’s what the elite players do – they raise their game and play their best when their teams need them to the most.

The Lightning look like they will advance against the Islanders since they already hold a 3-1 series lead against them. Tampa Bay has been extremely impressive in Game 5, showing an unbelievable killer instinct. They refused to let the Islanders have a chance of making a comeback. That’s what they’ll need in order to win the Stanley Cup.
