4. David Blatt

Orlando would be pretty stoked to land a great x’s and o’s type of coach in former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt. Blatt won over 70% of his regular season games with the Cavaliers the last year and a half. It was more of conflicting personalities that caused his premature departure from the Cavaliers organization.

Remember that when Cleveland had originally hired Blatt away from Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv during the summer of 2014 that he was supposed to coach an upstart team with the Cavaliers centered around point guard Kyrie Irving and No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins of the Kansas Jayhawks.

Nobody saw the return of LeBron James and that put Blatt immediately on the hot seat because he was James’ choice for a head coach. In short, Blatt could be getting a similar situation in Orlando in what he thought he was walking into with the Cavaliers two summers ago.

The only real issue with Blatt becoming the next head coach of the Magic is that this team may already be past the point of reclamation, meaning that bad habits of losing die hard. Will Blatt be patient enough to see the raw offensive games of Oladipo and Payton through? Can he get this young corps to play respectable defense?

Blatt would offer immediate credibility to the Magic if he became the team’s next head coach, but is it really the best landing spot for Blatt? Not really, but for a third option, then maybe it’s alright for the former Cavaliers head coach. He’s better equipped to coach the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers before becoming the next Magic coach if we’re being completely honest.
