Responding to a letter from a fan on Twitter, J.K. Rowling shared a hand-written spell with said fan.

J.K. Rowling is one of the most active authors on Twitter. She is constantly sharing new details about the Harry Potter world and interacting with fans.

One fan, @AlwaysJLover, sent an open letter to Rowling. In it, she explains that she is a survivor of sexual assault and bullying, and has struggled with self-harm. Rowling has helped her get through many of those tough things in her life, and she was looking for aid in her recovery.

Her request for Rowling: a hand-written Expecto Patronum that she could tattoo on her wrist to protect her. In the Harry Potter world, the spell protects witches and wizards from Dementors — the guards of Azkaban prison — creatures that force people to relive there most painful memories, used to break the spirits of the prisoners. The spell draws on a person’s happiest memory to drive the Dementor away.

Rowling granted @AlwaysJLover’s request, and sent her a tweet with a picture of Expecto Patronum in her hand writing.
