Wade Baldwin IV is an intriguing prospect because he can rotate between either guard position and expect to make an impact. He played two years in the NCAA ranks with Vanderbilt and asserted his will on each and every game he played.

His shooting is highly regarded as he shot 42.2 percent (199 attempts) during his two seasons which bodes well for the likelihood of that skill transferring to the NBA ranks. All that is good and well but the real reason Memphis wants this guy is his defensive potential. He’s only 6-3 but his wingspan is a staunch 6-10 which allows him to corral opposing guards and wings alike. The grit n’ grind atmosphere is ideal for a player like Baldwin and with the uncertainty of Mike Conley’s free agency looming he would be awesome insurance.

When I watch Baldwin play I immediately think of Gary Harris and while Harris is a little bit taller he has really come into his own for the Nuggets. Baldwin plays with the same power on both ends and could potentially be even more potent on the offensive side of the ball right now. With a year or two under his belt Baldwin could transform into that type of player and be a huge asset for the Grizzlies down the road.
