2. San Francisco 49ers

What a weird offseason the San Francisco 49ers have had. In all honesty, it’s been back-to-back weird offseasons for them.

They have had one coach leave via free agency and one get fired. They saw several players retire very young, and one may be coming back after an early retirement. Well, tackle Anthony Davis could be coming back if he can get over the headaches general manager Trent Baalke is giving him.

After all the dust settled though, what they have is a head coach in Chip Kelly who wore out his welcome fast in Philadelphia with his arrogant attitude and inability to work with star players. Oh, and a huge question mark at quarterback, which is where Mettenberger comes in.

Currently it looks as though the team is actually planning on giving Blane Gabbert a chance to be the starter, and they seemed very willing to trade Colin Kaepernick all offseason but found no takers.

Mettenberger could come in and give them one more option as Kelly loves to bring in quarterbacks and let them go. And for those who are saying Mettenberger isn’t mobile, Kelly claims his offense relies more on accuracy and quick passes than mobility.

One of the best seasons Kelly had while with the Philadelphia Eagles was with Nick Foles under center. Foles was a tall, accurate, less-than-mobile passer much like Mettenberger. It would make sense for the Niners to at least look into this one.
