Boston Celtics (via Brooklyn Nets)

The Celtics have one of the best head coaches in the NBA in Brad Stevens and an exceptionally deep roster of quality players. What Boston does not have, though, is a superstar, and while the Celtics will be linked to every big-ticket trade asset (Blake Griffin, DeMarcus Cousins, etc.) until the end of time, the easiest way for this organization to acquire the superstar they seek is to win the lottery.

This year, Boston actually has a very good chance to win the lottery without too much in the way of rigging, thanks to the ineptitude of the Brooklyn Nets under their previous regime. This pick is owed to the Celtics regardless of where it falls, and Danny Ainge would undoubtedly pounce on either Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram with significant fervor.

In short, it would be a lot of fun if the Celtics were able to seriously compete for a title. Though neither Simmons nor Ingram falls into the “sure thing” category of a player like Anthony Davis or even Karl-Anthony Towns, both prospects look to be potential number one options, and with Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Avery Bradley and others flanking that type of singular force, Boston would be terrifying in the future.

Danny Ainge is very good at his job (despite frustration from some Celtics fans) and we already know about Brad Stevens. If the Celtics actually got the star that everyone thinks they will eventually land? Look out.
