New Orleans Pelicans

Anthony Davis needs help in a big way.

It is easy to see what the Pelicans were trying to do in surrounding Davis with veteran talent, but it simply didn’t work. There have been nice veteran pieces on the roster, including Tyreke Evans, Eric Gordon, Jrue Holiday and Ryan Anderson, but New Orleans has failed to succeed in pairing their cornerstone superstar with a player that he can age with and grow with as the team seeks a different level of recognition.

As you may expect, the best way to do this is for New Orleans to win this year’s draft lottery. After all, the Pelicans weren’t supposed to be here this season, as an injury to Davis and the general disaster that occurred with this team wasn’t something that anyone saw coming.

Still, the Pelicans have a great opportunity to add someone with youth and upside (they currently don’t have anyone who fits this mold, with the potential exception of Holiday) and both Simmons and Ingram would be beautiful in New Orleans. This is a team that would simply take the best player regardless of fit, and with one certain superstar and one potential superstar, the Pelicans would go from fringe playoff team to legitimate contender in short order.

The jury is out as to whether Davis can stay healthy and dominant over 82 games, but it would undoubtedly help his cause if some of the workload was removed.
