5 reasons Leonard Fournette can win the 2016 Heisman
4. LSU a national title contender
One thing all Heisman winners seem to have in common is that they play(ed) for national title contenders. Leonard Fournette will be no different in 2016 as the LSU Tigers are considered a preseason top-five to top-10 team and will be one of a handful of favorites to win it all.
There’s plenty of returning talent with the Tigers for the 2016 season as guys like Malachi Dupre, Brandon Harris and Travin Dural will look to make the offense even scarier than it was a season. Couple that with a solid incoming recruiting class and you have one of the top teams in all of college football.
If the LSU Tigers can get over that hump and finally win a national title under Miles — or at least make it to the playoffs — on Fournette’s back, you know he will be a top contender for the award.
Obviously, the winner of the Heisman isn’t announced after the national title game, but if the Tigers make it to the playoff, he’s going to be a prominent name. If he rushes for over 2,000 yards and the Tigers are one of the top four teams in the country at the end of the season, he’s all but a lock for the trophy, in my opinion.
