Re-drafting the 2015 NBA Draft
By John Buhler
The Milwaukee Bucks went with UNLV’s Rashad Vaughn with the No. 17 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. If they had to do it again, they probably should have taken the chance on Georgia State Panthers sharpshooting shooting guard R.J. Hunter.
Hunter showed flashes of brilliance as a rookie with the Celtics. He wasn’t asked to do too much besides drain outside shots, his best skill as a professional. While Vaughn was supposed to do similar things with Milwaukee, outside of the Suns’ Booker, Hunter appears to have the best outside shot of anybody in this 2015 NBA Draft class.
Milwaukee stumbled mightily in 2015-16 for dozens of reasons. One area that has been a persistent problem with the Bucks’ offense has been their dreadful outside shooting. Michael Redd or Ray Allen aren’t walking through that door any time soon. Hunter would have at least given Milwaukee a much-needed boost from the perimeter offensively.
Though he does lack lateral quickness, Hunter is also rangy so he could potentially become a solid help defender for the Bucks. He would have played a bigger role with the 2015-16 Bucks than he did with the 2015-16 Celtics. Hunter looks pretty good entering his sophomore and Milwaukee would really appreciate a Mulligan on their 2015 NBA Draft day decision.
