169. . Power Forward/Center. Wisconsin Badgers. Frank Kaminsky. 18. player

To say the Hornets reached for Kaminsky is an understatement. In this 2016 NBA re-draft, the 2015 National Player of the Year falls to the Houston Rockets at No. 18.

Instead of using their No. 18 pick on Kaminsky’s Wisconsin teammate in small forward Sam Dekker, who did nothing in the Space City as a rookie, why wouldn’t the Rockets just draft Kaminsky with this selection. He would now be a huge value pick at No. 18.

With the way that general manager Daryl Morey wants his team to play, free throws and three-pointers, Kaminsky would fit right in with what the Rockets strive to do offensively. He’s still very skilled with that part of his game. It has been defensive lapses that have been his undoing as a rookie in Charlotte.

Now with aloof All-Star center Dwight Howard certainly skipping town in 2016 NBA free agency, Kaminsky would have a larger role with the 2016-17 Rockets than he probably would have this year. Yes, played a lot in 2015-16 with the Hornets, but it was always two steps forward, one step backward in his frustrating rookie season.

Kaminsky seems very coachable, but was for some reason out of sorts at times with the Hornets. For all the dysfunction emanating from the Rockets’ locker room, Kaminsky even as a rookie would have probably helped the team do better than .500 in 2015-16. It’d be a great re-do for the Rockets over that atrocious Royce White pick three years prior.
