Emmanuel Mudiay, Denver Nuggets
NEW YORK, NY – FEBRUARY 08: Emmanuel Mudiay /

Point Guard. Guangdong Southern Tigers (China), United States. Emmanuel Mudiay. 7. player. 73.

With the Denver Nuggets wisely parting ways with a player yielding diminishing returns in point guard Ty Lawson, naturally the Denver front office would have used their No. 7 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft on a point guard.

The best point guard available at No. 7 in this re-draft is the guy that Denver took their last summer in Emmanuel Mudiay. Mudiay was going to play for Larry Brown at SMU, but opted to go play overseas in China before entering the 2015 NBA Draft.

Mudiay averaged 12.8 points per game and 5.5 assists per game as a 19-year-old rookie in 2015-16 for a Nuggets team under new head coach Michael Malone that while it wasn’t playoff caliber, wasn’t exactly terrible either.

Denver seems like a team very much on the rise entering 2016-17 with a solid young corps intact and a solid head coach in place in Malone. The Nuggets can finally grow with a suitable point guard in Mudiay and a reliable head coach that isn’t Brian Shaw.

While time will tell if Mudiay every full taps into his potential as an NBA point guard, he should be a player to keep an eye on as he grows as a player in his early 20s. It’s hard to pass on his upside at the position he plays. Denver would wisely take Mudiay again in this re-draft of the 2015 NBA Draft.
