Michigan State. Deyonta Davis . 18. player. 64.
Michigan State’s Deyonta Davis wasn’t considered a one-and-done prospect coming out of high school. He entered the season as a four-star recruit, but quickly showed his defensive chops and was able to contribute offensively as a high energy big man.

Davis will be valued highly because of his defensive potential. At 6-10.5 with a 7-2.5 wingspan, he is most naturally a fit at the power forward spot, but his athleticism and mature frame (237 pounds) should allow him to spend a decent amount of time at center, especially against smaller lineups or second units. He is impressively mobile for a prospect of his size, capable of switching onto smaller defenders and staying with them on the perimeter for periods of time. Davis is also one of the draft’s best rim protectors. He averaged 4.0 blocks per 40 minutes as a freshman, which is the fourth best mark among top 100 prospects in this year’s draft class.

Offensively, Davis is still a work in progress. Over 60 percent of his field goal makes this season were assisted as he operated frequently as the rim runner in pick-and-roll situations. He showed the type of soft hands and quick leaping ability that teams will want to see out of their pick-and-roll bigs. Davis is also a very good offensive rebounder, recording an offensive rebound rate of 13.5 percent during his lone season in East Lansing. While offensive rebounding has somewhat fallen out of favor with the majority of the NBA, the success of the Cavaliers and Thunder in the NBA playoffs should help make it a more valued attribute come summer.

To read more about Deyonta Davis, <a href=.
