18.
Boston is able to find more wing help here with the 23rd pick. Baylor’s Taurean Prince is another lengthy “3-and-D” small forward. At nearly 6-8 with a 6-11.5 wingspan, he has the prototypical size to play the position. The 21-year old is already 220 pounds and frequently spent time as a small ball power forward for the Bears this season, so he has the strength to do battle against the NBA’s more mature wings and may even be able to spend some time at the four in smaller lineups at the next level as well.

Prince’s three-point shot took a bit of a dip this year as he shouldered a larger scoring load for Baylor, but he still hit a solid 37.6 percent on 346 career three-point attempts while in Waco and won’t be asked to be a primary scorer in the NBA, which should allow him to settle into an offensive role as a knock down catch-and-shoot three-point option.

Defensively, there are some question marks about Prince who has the size and quickness to be a good defender, but doesn’t possess great court awareness and instinctual feel. Part of that may be a product of playing in Baylor’s zone defensive scheme for four years rather than consistently testing himself against the rigorous competition of the Big 12. Prince’s imperfect man-to-man defense was exposed during the Bears’ NCAA Tournament loss to Yale in which the Bulldogs frequently used back cuts to confuse him and score at the rim. With time, though, Prince could learn to a decent NBA defender as he becomes more familiar with man-to-man fundamentals.

Prince is the choice here over younger options like Patrick McCaw and Malachi Richardson because he is likely more prepared to contribute right away when compared to those prospects.

To read more about Taurean Prince, <a href=.
