5 reasons Jeff Hornacek is right man for Knicks
By John Buhler
1. Can build an offense around Kristaps Porzingis.
While Anthony preferred that Blatt would be named the next head coach of the Knicks, maybe he wasn’t entirely against Hornacek coming aboard either? Frankly, the news of his hiring took the league by surprise, so maybe Anthony is still adjusting to Hornacek being his new head coach.
Regardless of what Anthony may think about Hornacek as the next head coach of the Knicks, it’s not as important as what Hornacek can do for Porzingis’ development. While Anthony is still technically the best player on the Knicks, Porzingis is the only untradeable asset on the team, as he is the blinding bright future for the club.
Porzingis’ skill set offensively is his greatest attribute as a young 20-year old. He handles the ball like a small forward at 7’3″, has the makings of a Dirk Nowitzki type of jump shot from outside, and doesn’t back down from anyone.
The best thing the Knicks can do with Porzingis’ development is to now let Hornacek try several different offensive philosophies besides the Triangle to see what best unlocks all of Porzingis’ potential as an NBA star.
With the amount of creativity he showed with the Suns the last three years, Hornacek may be the best coach to bring the best out of Porzingis while truly ushering in the small ball era in New York. Blatt probably made the most sense with the Knicks, but Hornacek can still succeed with the Knicks as their next head coach in 2016-17.
