3. Blockbuster Deal with Pick and Okafor to Celtics and Picks to 76ers

Again looking back at the trade deadline this past season, the Boston Celtics were rumored to be in talks regarding a “mystery” trade for a couple of days leading up to the deadline. That deal obviously almost fell through, but there was never really any confirmation as to who they were trying to trade for in this mystery trade. However, the predominant rumor was that the Celtics were pushing hard to try and grab Sixers big man Jahlil Okafor.

That rumor becomes increasingly interesting now considering the complexion of the 2016 NBA Draft. The Sixers obviously have the No. 1 pick in a draft where really the first two picks are viewed as certain to work out as expected and where they also still have Okafor on the roster. Subsequently, there’s a deal to be made with the Celtics where the Sixers continue acquiring assets.

In a deal that would obviously be centered around Okafor and the top pick, the Sixers could parlay that into the No. 3 pick, some of the other picks that the Celtics have in the draft (they somehow have even more than Philly in the 2016 NBA Draft) and one of the Celtics’ backcourt assets like an RJ Hunter or someone of that ilk. In the end, the 76ers would get more assets, would get a backcourt player (an area of need), and would open up space in a crowded frontcourt. Everybody wins.
