2. Ohio State a national title contender

Like we look for with all Heisman contenders, the team Barrett plays for is a legitimate national title contender. The Ohio State Buckeyes have been such ever since Urban Meyer took over in 2013 — well, even before that, but you get the point.

The Wichita Falls, Texas, native is entering the 2016 season with some extremely high expectations, and he has the talent to deliver that. Sure, he probably has some personal goals set for himself, but he wants to bring another national title to Columbus.

Everyone seems to forget that Barrett led the Buckeyes to the Big Ten title game in 2014 before missing time due to an injury. Cardale Jones played clean-up duty, winning the final three games of the year to bring the title home to Ohio State, and that had to make Barrett feel like he had so much to prove.

Sure, the Buckeyes were 11-1 with him under center, but Jones won the three biggest games of the year, hoisting the national title trophy in the end.

Now it’s Barrett’s turn to show just why he was the best option to start and lead the Buckeyes to the Big Ten Championship two years ago. There’s enough talent around him and you can bet he’s as hungry as anyone in the country to win it all.

Ohio State will likely be the favorite, along with Michigan and Michigan State, to win the conference in 2016. If the Buckeyes can take down those two, they’ll likely be playoff bound.

Heisman winners are usually title contenders. Check this one off the list of requirements.
